Posted by Bob Dorough at 08:44 PM on February 06, 2010 Comments comments (3)

Our reunion planning group had our first meeting recently and we want to update you with the plans.  Currently we're arranging the following - but everything is very much subject to change:

  • Target dates: August 27 or September 24, pending coordination with Packer schedule
  • Thursday evening Rehearsal
    • 6-7:30pm Sectionals & Color Guard
    • 7:30-9pm Full Ensemble
  • Friday Football game (minimal drills)
    • Pre-Game
      • Recognition for previous Directors and Drum Majors
      • Recognition of Oldest and Youngest members
      • F-tuning (Trash Can Tuning)
      • Star Spangled Banner
    • Stand Music
    • Half-time
      • Music TBD
      • Fight Song
  • Friday Night After-Game Party
    • Country Field Party, possibly with Bonfire
    • BYOD (Bring your own Drinks)
  • Saturday afternoon picnic at Reed Bingham (optional @ own expense)
  • Saturday Night Adult Dinner & Dance

Music is being planned now & is expected to include favorites from across the years.  Scores will be written with the intention of being fun yet easy, and will be posted on the website via downloadable PDF files so we can begin practicing ASAP.

We're working on arranging short-term instrument rentals from a few music shops.  We'll also setup an "Instrument Exchange" forum on the website to facilitate instrument swapping between alumni for the event.

Events are being designed to be enjoyable and affordable for everyone.  Cost will be as low as possible and payments will be accepted online through our website via PayPal.  Package price will include a custom designed event T-shirt.

As we draw closer to the event date, we will coordinate section leaders to organize sections and help in instrument acquisition for those who need an instrument.

We'll begin publishing information online soon and in the Moultrie Observer.  Please help spread the word!

Our second meeting will be later this month and we'll post the results of that meeting immediately afterward.

First Reunion Planning Meeting

Posted by Bob Dorough at 06:09 PM on December 30, 2009 Comments comments (1)

Hi folks,

In order to keep you all up-to-date on the latest plans for our Super Reunion! 2010, I've started this blog.  Now that Christmas is over and New Year's Day is just about here,  plans will start rolling out pretty quickly.

A core planning group will meet on January 23 to get things moving.  We'll be taking all of your comments from the forums, along with any notes you post here, and going over them to make sure we try to make this thing as fun for everyone as possible.  We've intentionally opened the forum for your comments so that we can hear what you have to say.  Your input won't fall on deaf ears!  Even if you don't get a response online, please know that what you have to say is being heard.

As discussed before, initial plans are to have the reunion coincide with a Packers football game.  We don't know next year's football schedule yet, so we can't pinpoint our reunion date yet either.  We'll be watching the CCHS schedule closely for updates.  If you stumble onto something before we do, by all means let us know.  The sooner we know, the better.

Many have mentioned wanting an alumni band.  That's a serious consideration, and one that would be fun.  Obviously, there are technicalities to work out... instruments, practice time, skill levels, songs, etc.  If we can swing it, we'll make it happen.  It won't be an obligation to play, but there are many of you who want to.  And we want to accomodate that as well.

We'll also be discussing location and food.  Lots to think about there.

Lots to think about everywhere!

So if you have input, don't hold back!  Leave your comments here or put them in the forums.

I, as many of you whom I've talked with, am really excited about this!  I believe we all deeply appreciate our history with the 50th Regiment.  And what a great way for all alumni to come together for one big band blowout!

More to come......

Bob
